Waste Resource Innovation Centre - Open House

Welcome to the Waste Resource Innovation Centre! (WRIC). During this open house, you'll have the opportunity to explore the WRIC, and learn how Guelph processes and diverts its waste. The Guelph Tool Library will be on site with our Think Outside The Bin program. Visitors are welcome to bring the outlined recyclable goods to our info table. Activities available during the open house include: - Tours of our recycling facility and our drop-off depot (registration required)
- Organic waste processing facility information sessions (every 30 minutes starting at 915 a.m.)
- Displays of collection vehicles and equipment
- Information booths about different City services and programs
Important to know: The open house will be held at 110 Dunlop Drive, Guelph. To access the event, you must enter at Gate 2 of the WRIC. Tour information:Site tours of our recycling facility will run every 30 minutes from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Please note there is a 25 person limit per tour, you must register for a time slot to attend. Details about our site tours: - Attendees must be at least 10 years old
- PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) will be provided
- Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled tour time

Circular Economy Month - Repair Cafe
Circular Economy Month - Repair Cafe October 5, 2024 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Our next Repair Cafe is coming up Saturday, October 5th from 11 am-3 pm at our new home in Unit 115 of Old Quebec Street Shoppes. Bring your broken items and get them fixed with the help of our expert volunteers, and learn how it's done!
You can bring:
-electronics
-small electrical appliances
-clothing
-computers
-clocks
-bikes
and much more.
We would like to kindly ask the visitors not to bring the following items to the Repair Café: items which need welding, refrigeration equipment (coolers, bar fridges, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, etc.), gas-powered equipment (lawn mowers, line trimmers, chain saws, etc.), items operating on a power greater than 120 volts and tools and appliances from other countries operating on different currents.

In Collaboration with The Guelph Public Library, this event will be at the GPL Main Branch at 100 Norfolk Street. Grab something from your mending pile and join us for the Stitch Together Community Mending Project, a drop-in, DIY mending program offered through the Guelph Tool Library.Visitors can bring their clothing and textiles that need mending and work with volunteers that will teach them how - we’ll provide the sewing machines, stitching supplies, and friendly mending support. In addition to mending, our volunteers are happy to provide support for folks new to sewing that are looking to improve their skills and confidence.All ages and skill levels are welcome. Come stitch together and repair your loved clothing, learn new skills, and keep textile waste out of our landfill. Remember: mending is the new spending!Stitch Together sessions take place twice per month (generally on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, unless impacted by a holiday) at the Guelph Tool Library – upcoming dates can always be found on the Guelph Tool Library calendar.No registration is required for these drop-in events, and supplies will be available for use, but participants are also welcome to bring their own. Please pre-register here for this Circular Economy Month collaboration between the City of Guelph and the Guelph Tool Library. Workshop: Making Compost Faster and Better We'll delve into the composting process, understand the role of microbes and look at ways to speed up the process including the importance of the C:N ratio. The program will discuss ways to use the finished compost and some key issues such as plant diseases, herbicides, use of toxic plants, microplastics and the concern over environmental issues - does composting lead to climate change? You will also learn about controversial items that you may not want to add to a compost pile. Everyone in attendance will receive a coupon to purchase a discounted composter.
