Pin A Smile On

Update: As of January 2023, the Pin A Smile On program is no longer active.

Pin A Smile On is the GTL’s newest project and the second to be focused on supporting community through COVID-19. The project was inspired by the experiences of volunteer librarians and committee members when volunteering during the pandemic. The mandatory use of face coverings can make immediately identifying those around you difficult, and can feel isolating for many. The use of ‘selfie’ buttons makes identification of volunteers and other essential workers easier.

We’re teaming up with PIN, the People and Information Network, to make and distribute 500 custom buttons for Guelph volunteers with their own face on it in effort to help volunteers show their smiles safely. Not a volunteer? Don’t frown! You can receive your own smiling button for just $2.  Masks are mandatory, and for good reason, but their use comes with challenges. Our project won’t fix your sore ears or foggy glasses, but it might help you recognize your friend at first glance and help you feel more connected to them, even from 6ft away.

Interested parties should email a good quality photo to buttons@guelphtoollibrary.org. Good quality photos are in focus and well lit, with the subject centered in the frame and facing the camera. Delivery is available for large group orders, while individuals can pick their buttons up from the GTL during specified hours.

Non-volunteers can pay for the pin in person when they pick it up at the Guelph Tool Library or online through our website.
