Sew on the Go is on hiatus until the fall of 2024. We are recruiting new volunteers to help out with the program. Please contact us at info@guelphtoollibrary.org if you would like to help us out.
Sew on the Go works in partnership with a number of seniors’ centres in Guelph. Volunteers travel to the various locations to meet with residents and do small clothing repairs. The SOTG volunteer decides how to best do this which might include on site repairs or taking the items away for more complicated repairs. The work is free and volunteers are compensated for their travel costs to and from the seniors’ centres.
Beryl Holtam created the Sew on the Go program after volunteering at our Repair Cafes. She combined her love of sewing with her professional work as a Program Coordinator for a Senior’s Centre in Hamilton. She found that Sew on the Go was an ideal enterprise to undertake after her retirement. Beryl told us of the work that “she had witnessed the clear need for clothing repair and the deep appreciation of the recipients of this service.”. Beryl will be greatly missed by her friends at the Guelph Tool Library.
